The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel (2011)

Storyline:

British retirees travel to India to take up residence in what they believe is a newly restored hotel. Less luxurious than advertised, the Marigold Hotel nevertheless slowly begins to charm in unexpected ways.

​Milestones (FIRST ACT):

1. Ordinary World: They are all seniors and don't know each other. They have issues concerning aging.
2. Meeting the Mentor/ Call for Adventure (00:10:00): Each of them have a reason to go to India.
3. Crossing the Threshold (00:15:00): They all meet at the airport and decide to explore India together.

Milestones (SECOND ACT):

1. Set of Trial (00:16:00): India seems to be a very dangerous place for a group of British elderly. The station is very crowded and the bus driver is not much careful.. The hotel is a dirty mess and does not look like in the brochure. The food is far too exotic to their British stomach.
2. Crossing the Second Threshold (00:38:00): Evelyn gets the job she wanted and Muriel is operated and slowly tries to treat Indians nicer. Most of them are already settled to the new environment. Graham confesses to Evelyn that he is gay and what he went to do in India. Sonny is visited by his mother who doesn't like her girlfriend.
3. Set of Trial (00:50:00): Sonny has to make the Hotel be profitable in order to stand to his family and stay with his girlfriend. Evelyn starts in her new job and Norman gets to meet a woman in the Indian Country Club. Jean decides to leave the hotel and chase Graham in town. Graham tells Jane he is gay and she goes back to the hotel crying, desperate to leave India. Muriel tells her new Indian friend about her secret past and how she was replaceable.
4. Love in the Underworld (01:17:00): Graham meets his old affair. There is a romantic mood around Evelyn and Douglas.
5. Approaching The Inmost Cave (01:21:00): Sonny's mother shows up humiliates Sonny and his girlfriend in the middle of the night.
6. Belly of the Whale (01:24:00): Graham dies of a heart condition. This event makes everyone rethink about their own life. Jane convinces Douglas to go back to England. Sonny's mother decides to sell the hotel against Sonny's will.
7. Resurrection and Elixir (01:38:00): Evelyn convinces Sonny to make his own fate. Muriel starts a plan to keep the hotel working. Sonny says to his girlfriend that he is in love with her and they go after his to stand to his mother. Jean and Douglas break up on the way to the airport.

Milestones (THIRD ACT):

1. Master of the Two Worlds (01:54:00): Each of them have their own happy ending. Jean goes to England, Douglas and Evelyn get together, as Sonny and his girlfriend. Norman and Madge find their love and Muriel feels useful again helping the hotel.
