Like Crazy (2011)

Storyline:

A British college student falls for an American student, only to be separated from him when she's banned from the U.S. after overstaying her visa.

Main Characters:

  1. ANNA- (hero)
  2. JACOB - (goddess)
  3. SAMANTHA

Milestones (FIRST ACT):

  1. Ordinary World: Anna is a student and falls in love with Jacob.
  2. Meeting the Mentor/ Call for Adventure (00:16:00): Anna must leave LA because her student visa is going to expire.
  3. Crossing the Threshold (00:21:00): Anna decides to stay with Jacob besides her visa expiration date. She flies to UK for a wedding and when she comes back to the US she is not allowed to enter the country.

Milestones (SECOND ACT):

  1. Set of Trial (00:23:00): They try to figure out a way to have a long distance relationship but it doesn't work well. Both of them are depressed about the mutual agreement of the break up.
  2. Belly of the Whale (00:27:00) (00:33:00): They talk on the phone and realize they are still in love. Jacob decides to go to England to see Anna.
  3. Set of Trial (00:36:00): Jacob doesn't feel very comfortable in Anna's life in England. He is secretly afraid their relationship is destined to not last. Her parents think the same.
  4. Atonement with the Father (00:39:00): Anna's father says out loud that they should get marries soon and solve the visa issue.
  5. Crossing the Second Threshold (00:44:00): Jacob had to go back to the US. Time has passed and now he has a new girlfriend, Samantha. However he clearly has not forgotten Anna.
  6. Approaching The Inmost Cave (00:50:00): Jacob and Anna confesses again love to each other. Jacob breaks up with Samantha. They get married. The marriage visa is denies because of Anna's student visa violation.
  7. Belly of the Whale (01:01:00): They get tired of the bureaucracy and it affects their relationship. They fight because of jealously. They break up.
  8. Love in the Underworld (01:10:00): Anna stays with Simon and Jacob with Samantha. However they are still in touch and keep texting and missing one another.
  9. Resurrection and Elixir (01:15:00): Simon proposes Anna in front of her parents and she doesn't say yes.

Milestones (THIRD ACT):

  1. Freedom to Live (01:19:00): Anna gets the marriage visa issued and goes to the US. Jacob breaks up with Samantha. She arrives in the US but apparently they have grown old in different directions. They are not as passionate as they were. They hug one another in the shower, cry and remember the good moments of the past
Final Feedback:

The film has so many ups and downs that it is hard to distinguish one from the other in terms of act structure. Their relationship comes and goes and each time it happens I would usually consider a thershold.
